Takis Fyssas is the ambassador of Valencia’s football player development in Greece & Cyprus.
The Valencia CF Academy Greece & Cyprus Elite Development Program is the only organized program for the development of talented football players in Greece and Cyprus. This program, part of the network of affiliated academies of the Valencia CF Academy, aims to identify , train, and develop young talented football players within its network in Greece and Cyprus. Valencia CF Academy, in collaboration with the Valencia CF Academy Greece has designed and organized this program.
105 selected footballers and 17 goalkeepers trained under the guidance of Valencia Academy coaches Jordi Sequi and Carlos Mormeneo, for 4 days at the Valencia CF Academy Greece sports center in Athens.
During the Camp, a goalkeeper coaches’ seminar was organized with Carlos Mormeneo, goalkeeper coach of the U15 & U13 teams of the Valencia Academy, as speaker.The theme of the seminar was TASK DESIGN (theory – practice). It was attended by 10 goalkeeper coaches of the network.
Takis Fyssas joins as the program’s ambassador, bringing his vast experience to collaborate with the Spanish and Greek coaches of the Academy to evaluate talented players , and ultimately leave his own football mark on it.
His presence strengthens the program and gives it the momentum to continue as one of the highest- quality football development programs for young players.
The program significantly contributes to improving the quality of Greek football. Over its seven years of operation, one player has joined Valencia’s Academy , while 54 players who participated in the Talented Football Player Development Program were transferred to Greek Super League 1 and 2 teams. The entire process of developing young talents is carried out across 5 ages categories: U16, U15, U13, and U12.
The Valencia CF Elite Development Program includes:
Phase 1:
- Recruiting Program (annual collaboration with academies)
- 2 Elite Development Camps (September & January)
- Player evaluation
- Individual training programs within academy network
- Friendly matches with Super League teams
- Formation of an Elite Team for Greece & Cyprus in each age category
Phase 2:
- Week- long experience at the Valencia CF Academy (for U16 & U14 Elite
Teams) - Participation in the VCF Word Cup (for the U12 Elite Team)
- Participation in European Tournaments (for U15 & U13 Elite Teams)
Phase 3:
- VCF Academy Elite Camp (participation of 18 players , U16 category,
selected globally with scholarship from Valencia).
The Power of the Network. The 90% of the children participating are players from the Valencia CF Academy network in Greece and Cyprus. The partnership between Valencia CF Academy and the academies in Greece and Cyprus began in September 2017. The network currently consists of 10 academies in Greece and 2 academies in Cyprus.
GOALKEEPERS COACHES’ SEMINAR:
The seminar was held as part of the Elite Camp in Athens from January 3-6 , 2025 ,with the speaker Carlos Mormeneo, Goalkeeper Coach for Valencia Academy’s U15 & U13 teams. The topic of the seminar was TASK DESIGN (theoretical & practical part) and 10 goalkeeper coaches attended from the network.
