VCF GOALKEEPERS SCHOOL

The goalkeeper program of our VCF Academies Network in Greece & Cyprus is part of the comprehensive annual program of Valencia CF Academy Greece & Cyprus, exclusively for goalkeepers. The goal of the program is the continuous development and best possible preparation of the children to become better goalkeepers, to acquire the necessary technical training and to claim their entry, depending on their age, either in the elite teams of the Elite Program, or in professional clubs abroad and Greece.

You can have an average team with a good goalkeeper and that team is a competitive team. You can have an average goalkeeper on a good team and that team becomes average. The role of the goalkeeper is key to the success of the team. There is no other position in football that has such an impact on the success or failure of a team. Goalkeeping coaches need to have the appropriate knowledge based on the specific technical, tactical and mental skills that the position requires. The goal of the goalkeeping program is the continuous development that will highlight and improve a number of technical and mental characteristics of the athlete. As a unique (and fun) position on the field, it is natural that goalkeepers require their very own specific training. Valencia CF Academy was created with the purpose of providing that excellence in training for our goalkeepers. We strive to provide a unique, innovative, and productive environment for all our goalkeepers of any age or skill. Our goalkeeper program is devoted to challenging each goalkeeper technically, psychologically and physically. Thus, embracing a culture of growth. Alongside Valencia CF values, we are dedicated to creating a goalkeeper family that is motivating and challenging. Yet is also a safe place to make mistakes and learn. “There won’t be a thing you’ll face in a game that you haven’t repeated a hundred times at practice already”.

The Function and Dynamics of Goalkeeping Valencia CF program.

The program is edited by Aitor Bas, responsible for the training Methodology of the Academy of Valencia C.F.. and professor of Goalkeeper Training at the European Sports Business School in Valencia. The goal of the training program is to teach our young goalkeepers the secrets of the bats and bring them closer to the Valencia goalkeeper training program.

The club have a goalkeeping specialist for each of the 11-a-side teams of a professional dynamic (VCF Mestalla, VCF Juvenil A and VCF Juvenil B) and a goalkeeping specialist for VCF Cadete A/VCF Infantil A, the Fundación Cadete and Fundación Infantil teams -as well as Sampedro in 8-a-side football. “The structure of the department is defined according to the needs of each stage of a player & development. In 11-a-side there is a more exhaustive control over training and competition for goalkeepers, whilst in 8-a-side the focus is mainly on the training process,” explains Bas. “We are aware that long-term competition serves as a tool for measuring the effectiveness of the training process. However, in the early stages of development we are convinced that competition is just another means of learning, and in no case do we value it by itself as a determining variable in the training process, ” Aitor Bas.
